Massage Therapy
MassageWe store our “issues in our tissues”!
A well rounded therapy plan would be wildly incomplete without massage. Where yoga physically loosens and strengthens, massage recovers the body and prevents further injury by removing restrictions in the tissue. Massage is not just broken down into "Swedish" and "Deep Tissue" as most spas and clinics traditionally depict. Massage is incredibly integrative and includes many modalities, say, myofascial release, stretching, and trigger point therapy. Each therapy session is customized differently, as each therapist and each person is different. I make frequent use of ROM (range of motion) and "counter-strain" (opposite of a stretch) while working though the muscles, pausing through different areas to relieve trigger points, restrictions in the fascia, or work towards lengthening. As in yoga, creating space in the body helps to relieve most issues (and my clients always say they feel taller!). Typically, most of my clients find relief in 1-3 regular sessions, depending on their history (and willingness to take responsibility for their own healing on a daily basis!). After that, maintenance sessions are recommended to prevent flare-ups or other injury. |
